If you’ve ever tried channelling, you may have noticed something strange: some people feel completely wiped out, tired, nauseous, dizzy, sleepy afterward, while others feel more energised, full of energy, clarity, having more newness than ever.

I witnessed someone literally running to the bathroom and throwing up as a result of channelling.

Meanwhile, I have the opposite experience. When I channel, I feel charged with energy, as if I’ve tapped into an infinite source of vitality.

This isn’t just about personal sensitivity - it’s about how our bodies and minds interact with high-frequency energies.

So what exactly is happening here? Why does channelling affect people so differently? And how can those who struggle with exhaustion or memory lapses improve their experience?

Before we dive deep into this topic, let me just clarify that channelling is often also called divine inspiration, download, intuitive knowing, higher guidance, spiritual messaging, flow state, inner knowing, automatic writing and more...

So with that, let's explore more!

What is actually happening when you channel?

At its core, channelling is the process of tuning into a frequency of energy or information that is beyond your usual state of awareness. This could mean connecting to divine guidance, spirits, higher dimensions, or even collective consciousness.

But here’s where things get interesting: your mind and body have to adjust to the frequency of what you’re channelling.

your mind and body have to adjust to the frequency of what you’re channelling.

Imagine trying to catch a radio station at 108 FM when you’re used to listening at 98 FM. Your entire system - mind, body, and energy field - has to shift and align to receive that information clearly.

This adjustment can be effortless for some and a struggle for others.

Why does channelling drain some people?

If you feel exhausted after channelling, it’s usually because of resistance.

Yes, yes, you read that right: RE-SIS-TAN-CE!

Your mind doesn’t fully surrender to the process, and that resistance shows up in your body as tension, fatigue, or even nausea.

Let me hit you with a few facts:

  • The mind resists what it can’t explain. When you channel, you are bypassing logic and reason. For people whose minds are wired for control and structure, this can feel deeply unsettling. Instead of allowing the information to flow, the mind fights back, trying to grasp, analyse, or reject what’s coming through. This resistance is exactly what drains your energy!

  • The body mirrors the mind’s resistance: the body follows the mind. If the mind resists, the body tenses up. This creates a state of energetic friction, like trying to push against a wave instead of flowing with it. The result? Exhaustion, headaches, nausea, or even vomiting!

  • The nervous system gets overwhelmed: if the energy coming through is very high-frequency and your body isn’t used to it, your nervous system can go into overdrive. Think of it like plugging a 110V appliance into a 220V socket—the surge of energy is too much to handle, leading to burnout.

  • Emotional blocks get triggered: sometimes, people feel drained because the information they’re channelling stirs up deep-seated emotions, fears, or traumas. If you’re channelling guidance that challenges your current beliefs or unearths unresolved wounds, your emotional body might react with exhaustion.

The mind resists what it can’t explain.

Why do some people feel energised instead?

There have been moments when I’ve channeled something as specific as a product for my business, like my Relationship Oracle, or even the entire concept for my book (more about it very soon!). During those times, I feel such a surge of energy that I actually need to step away and walk it off. In fact, this is one of the main reasons I walk at least 15,000 steps a day in nature - it’s my way of grounding and releasing the energy that comes from channelling.

I’ve been channelling since I was a little girl, but now, it often feels like I’m in a constant state of connection, with only occasional breaks. And those breaks can feel a bit strange! Let me describe what this experience actually looks like and share more with you...

For those who feel energised while channelling, the process is more like plugging into an endless power source rather than struggling to handle an overload.

Here’s why:

  • Surrender instead of resistance. I’ve been attuned to energy since childhood, and I’ve learned (consciously or unconsciously) to fully surrender when channelling. I don’t question, block, or resist the flow - I simply allow. This makes the process smooth and energising instead of draining.

  • Familiarity with high-frequency energy. Over time, my body has adapted to higher frequencies. Just like athletes train their bodies to endure greater physical stress, I have “trained” my energetic system to handle the influx of energy without struggle.

  • Alignment with my soul’s purpose. I come from a lineage of healers, and I was told by many mediums and my own guides that I am a born healer. When we operate in alignment with our natural gifts, we often feel more energised, not less. Channelling isn’t something I force - it’s part of my flow, and because of that, it fuels me rather than depletes me.

How can you make channelling less draining?

If you feel exhausted after channelling, don’t worry - there are ways to make the process smoother and more energising.

1. Train your mind to surrender.

  • Practice letting go of control before channelling. Meditate, breathe deeply, and set the intention to fully trust the process.

  • Remind yourself: “I don’t need to understand everything in the moment. I just need to allow.”

2. Strengthen your nervous system

  • Engage in grounding practices before and after channelling (walking barefoot, eating grounding foods, or using breathwork).

  • Gradually increase your exposure to high-frequency energy so your system can adapt over time.

  • If you find channelling too intense, you can always say, "please slow down," or ask to reduce the pace. And yes, it can be THAT simple!

3. Clear emotional blocks

  • If you’re struggling with overwhelm, ask yourself: "what emotions or fears is channelling bringing up for me?"

  • Healing emotional wounds will make channelling easier.

4. Set clear energetic boundaries

  • Before channelling, say a protection prayer, mantra, or visualise yourself in a sphere of light. Feel free to email me at Olga@newlifekickstart.com, and I will send you what I practice.

  • If you’re channelling for others, don’t absorb their energy—imagine the messages flowing through you, not from you.

5. Learn to remember what you channel

One of the biggest frustrations for some people is forgetting what they channel. The truth is, you don’t always need to remember everything you channel. For instance, when you're channelling for others as a Messenger or Teacher, the information may not be for you.

So, don't worry if you don't recall every detail. However, if something does resonate deeply with you or feels significant, it’s important to train yourself to remember it. Trust that what you need to retain will stay with you.

Here’s how to improve memory retention:

  • Speak aloud or write down messages as they come through.

  • Anchor the information by repeating it mentally a few times before moving on.

  • Train your mind by intentionally recalling short messages and gradually increasing the length over time.

Is channelling only for spiritual people? What about the rest of the world?!

The reality is, the outcome of channelling can take many forms, and it’s not limited to spiritual or metaphysical practices. Channelling is essentially a process of accessing a higher state of awareness or tapping into something beyond our conscious mind, allowing information, ideas, or inspiration to flow through us.

So, even if you don’t consider yourself spiritual, but suddenly get a brilliant idea or a burst of inspiration "out of nowhere" - just smile and recognise it for what it is… a little nudge from the higher realms!

When we think about artists, musicians, authors, and other creators, they are often engaging in a form of channelling. Take, for example, Beethoven, who famously composed his masterpieces even after he went deaf. How could he, someone who could no longer hear, create music that transcended time? It’s likely that he was channelling his compositions from a higher level of inspiration—his connection to music went beyond just the physical sense of hearing. He could have been tuning into universal energies, the emotions of the pieces, or even the collective consciousness of those who would listen to his music.

Similarly, other artists and creators often describe moments when they feel like their work "flows through them." When writing, painting, composing, or creating, they might feel like the ideas are coming from somewhere else, beyond their conscious control - like they’re receiving inspiration rather than producing it entirely on their own. This kind of experience can be likened to channelling, where the creator is not just relying on their intellectual abilities but opening themselves up to a greater, universal source.

Channelling is not limited to spiritual realms; it can be a creative process that brings forth something new into the world, often without a clear understanding of where the inspiration is coming from. And it doesn’t require us to be conscious of it in the same way we are with other tasks. It’s like being a conduit for ideas, emotions, or information that already exists out there, just waiting to be brought into the world.

So, whether it’s music, writing, or art, when creators tap into that space, they could be channelling in their own unique way. The difference is, in these cases, the channelling is focused on creativity, and it’s not always seen as “spiritual” in the traditional sense, but rather as a deep connection to the flow of energy and inspiration around them.

Why creative channelling feels different?

Artists simply surrender to the process.

A songwriter who gets lyrics in a flash or a painter who feels "in the zone" isn’t resisting. They just let it flow. The less you resist, the more energising the process.

The less you resist, the more energising the process.

  • The subconscious is engaged, not overridden – unlike spiritual channelling, which can bypass the conscious mind completely, creative channeling often works with the subconscious, making it feel more natural and integrated.

  • No fear, no blockages – many people feel drained by spiritual channeling because their mind freaks out: "Where is this coming from?! Is this real? Am I making this up? What if I get it wrong?" Artists, on the other hand, often see inspiration as a normal part of their work and don’t question it - something for every spiritual person to learn from artists!

  • Physical movement helps ground the energy – musicians play instruments, dancers move, and writers type or scribble. This grounds the energy, preventing that "overloaded circuit" feeling that can happen with pure spiritual downloads.

  • They work with the energy, not against it – some artists describe a "flow state" where time disappears, and they just create. This is channeling in its purest form, but because they're in alignment with it, it fuels them instead of draining them.

And therefore, regardless of where you are on your journey, let's just acknowledge that channelling is a powerful process, and how it affects you depends on your relationship with surrender, your energetic capacity, and your emotional landscape. If you feel drained, it’s often a sign of resistance, unprocessed emotions, or an overworked nervous system. If you feel energised, it likely means you’ve learned to flow with the process and your body is attuned to high-frequency energy.

For those just beginning their spiritual journey, the key is to practice trust, regulate your energy, and gradually increase your exposure to higher frequencies. Over time, channelling can become not just effortless, but deeply nourishing.

And if you ever find yourself feeling waaaay overwhelmed/dizzy/tired or even sick after channelling, take it as a sign that your mind and body are resisting too much - and that it might be time to shift your approach.
